Leighton O’Brien launches 2-tier water removal &
tank cleaning service
Leading global tank and fuel management
company Leighton O’Brien has re-launched
a water removal and tank cleaning service
to resolve water and degraded fuel issues
for underground tank operators.
The 2-tier offering is designed to meet
customer’s complete tank cleaning requirements,
whether it be a basic water pump out or a
comprehensive tank clean and fuel restoration.
Toby Griffin, general manager of Field Services for
Leighton O’Brien said, “ We’ve had a lot of enquiries
about a dedicated water pump out service to
remove free phase water from underground tanks.
“ In response to this demand our tier 1 water
removal service provides a comprehensive,
quick and cost effective option to remove
all water and is ideal for tanks that have an
associated remote fill drain line,” he said.
“Our tier 2 offering has all the benefits of tier 1
while also restoring degraded fuel to pristine
condition via a 3-stage filtration process to ensure
premium fuel quality and therefore optimise
our customer’s underground assets,” he said.
“Our comprehensive service package solves
a range of water and dirty fuel issues such as
malfunctioning pumps and ATGs, blocked filters and
bacterial growth - not to mention costly insurance
claims from vehicles breaking down,” Griffin said.
“And, unlike other tank cleaning services, our
patented process sweeps the entire tank floor to
remove free phase water from the tank, and only
liquid waste - not fuel – is removed from site.”
Griffin added the service is conducted by fully
trained technicians and supported by expert
data analysis and comprehensive reporting by
Leighton O’Brien’s qualified business analysts.
“Customers receive a visual water ingress
report to assess the potential cause of water
entry in the tank, as well as a product quality
check and fuel inspection report,” he said.

MotorMouth App now delivers site level petrol prices
In Australian capital cities accessing the right
information can save motorists around 15–20 cents
per litre on unleaded fuel. The key is knowing when
to buy in the price cycle and this feature has been
available to MotorMouth App users since July 2013.
Now the savvy motorist can finesse their purchasing
by checking site prices in the immediate surrounds
– most of which are updated twice each day.
MotorMouth first brought Australian Motorists the
www.motormouth.com.au website to help them
get a better deal on fuel. Then in July 2013,
MotorMouth released a smartphone app to
enable city motorists to determine when to buy,
as well as help all motorists (city and regional)
understand a good price to “Buy Below”.
In mid-April 2014, in response to user feedback,
MotorMouth updated the App to include site
level pricing (where available) for sites near
users' GPS locations. This facility is currently
limited to capital cities, however MotorMouth
intend to expand the service as soon as possible
to empower more motorists across Australia.
Motorists can now use the app to determine:
Whether to fill up or top up based on where
prices are positioned in the cycle (using the
Daily Averages Chart and/or 7 Day Outlook).
A good price to buy with the MotorMouth “Buy
Below” price that cuts out the most expensive
prices in an area to show motorists a competitive
price. This can then be used as a good indicator
of whether a site is matching the market. " Buy
Below" prices are calculated every 15 minutes
based on the latest aggregated data available and
will quickly react to latest changes in the market.
Where to buy based on available fuel prices for
service stations closest to their current GPS
location. MotorMouth update the majority of
site level pricing information twice daily.
“ We have a pretty good coverage but would
love to show more prices” said MotorMouth
Managing Director Alan Cadd. (See table)
“ So we’d love to help any service station out
there that wants to promote their prices direct
to the motorist. Simply use w w w.mypriceboard.
com to advertise your current prices and we’ll
do our best to get them out there” Alan added.

Woolworths cuts linked fuel discounts ahead of ruling
Woolworths pre-empted part of a Federal Court
ruling today by unilaterally deciding in mid-
March that it will no longer link fuel discounts at its
supermarkets and petrol stations. Woolies has been
offering shoppers an 8¢-a-litre fuel discount if they
first qualified for a 4¢-a-litre discount by purchasing
$30 of groceries, and then topped it up with a
similar discount by spending $5 on convenience
items in a company-owned petrol station
A spokeswoman for Woolies confirmed that the
linked offer had been withdrawn. " We said at the
time when we sought a declaration from the Federal
Court that we had discussed with the Australian
Competition and Consumer Commission making
our discounts independent of each other," she
said. " We believe our current petrol discounts are
allowed under the undertaking made with the ACCC
in December last year, and we look forward to the
court providing clarity around this," she added.
Woolies action on the linked fuel offers has
pre-empted one element of yesterdays Federal
Court ruling. The Federal Court, however, will
also decide if "bundled" fuel discounts, which
are still offered by both Woolies and Coles,
are in breach of the ACCC undertaking.
In February, when it announced it would seek the
court's guidance, Woolies said it believed that
the undertaking allowed customers to combine
offers of 4¢ from the supermarket and 4¢ from
the pump for a total discount of 8¢ a litre.
The ACCC, however, believes that customers
should only have access to one 4¢ offer at a time.
Chairman Rod Sims said last month that fuel
discounts by the giant retailers could have longer-
term, adverse competition effects on retail fuel
markets, and also increase general pump prices.
